Harari: truth vs order
From a conversation with ChatGPT. Only my side is shown.
This is a statement from Yuval Noah Harrari’s book nexus: “Politics involves a delicate balance between truth and order.”
He introduces the concept of inter subjective reality - which is not a false hood but allows large groups of people to collaborate together. It is not true either since it’s a shared fiction by multiple humans. This also muddles the definition of truth since truth is some definition of reality but as soon as we introduce an observer, it muddles things up because it introduces a point of view, things can look different from a point of view - the best thing to then do is to look at reality from multiple view points and try to form an abstraction of truth and keep refining it as soon as we gain more resolution.
In this context what is the moral thing to do when balancing truth and order. The maintenance of order requires some intersubjective reality to be created in order to form groups. How do we reach the balance where we decide how much of the lie is needed to prevent chaos?
