Why Hyperion hooked me

From a conversation with Grok. Only my side is shown.

I need help with book recommendations - I need something like the hyperion cantos by dan simmons, easy to read and extremely imaginative - eg the first book has multiple very extremely imaginative stories so that even if you do not like the first story you can read the second one and as a bonus they connect.

I have read other hyperion cantos and endymydion books and there were extremely engaging, however I have been unable to find other book, the book of the new sun was too hard to read and not interesting, neal stephenson’s books are also very long and too boring

i was hooked into hyperion cantos by the following:

  1. getting to the point quickly - the stories start without too long setup, the stories get extremely interesting extremely quickly > other world, christian father > the tribe > the cross paarasite > the cave system > and even the ending where the priest survived and still had the cross. I think I loved the priest’s story the most - if felt very gruesome, intriguing and imaginative all at the same time and hence it drove my emotions and imagination the most

  2. The story moves quickly and dots connect - there is not just 100 pages of scene setting, we quickly get a new story every few pages and they have more and more interesting concepts - like the time tombs, the labyrinth, the shrike, which are extremely interesting and we cannot figure them out immediately but still resonate with the implications, it’s a kind of terrifying awe (same as the cross parasite)

  3. Finally everything starts to connect which is a bonus - so I like the variety, I like the kind of emotions it triggers inside me, I like how it creates a sandbox and a safe space for me to imagine (space and futuristic fantasy) but then instill it with real world possible dangers - the shrike, cross parasite, labryinth system, where are scary but also induce curiosity and I want to explore more about them - this combinations helps me to safely imagine and feel how the characters might be feeling

  4. In general I like more passionate reads - the name of the wind is another favourite, the malazan books are another good one, but they were too complex to read, and also both of these are not sci fi.
